Special Coconut Fried Fish Spicy and Tangy( Kerala Style Kallu Shappu Fish Fry)


10 Fish pieces (King Fish / Prawns /  Any fish with thick flesh )

1/2 cup grated coconut

2 tsp fennel seeds

15 Shallots/ Small onions

2  tsp turmeric powder

3 tsp red chili powder

2 tsp kashmiri chilli powder

2 tsp pepper corn crushed

Salt to taste,

Tamarind paste   -  2 tables spoon ( sock the mon sized  tamarind in  hot extract the juice from  it 2 tablespoon)

2  sprig curry leaves

  Oil for frying

2 chopped green chilli  - Garnishing (optional)

1\2 onion sliced  Fried – Garnishing (optional)

1 spring Cilantro - Garnish( Optional)


Method of preparation

    Clean the fish pieces well and keep aside.

    Crush the 2 tsp fennel seeds and keep aside.

    Grind the coconut, small  onions in to a fine paste and keep aside.

    Put the fish pieces in a bowl, add the coconut paste, crushed fennel seeds, crushed     
    pepper corns, turmeric powder, red chilly powder, Kashmiri chili powder ,salt, curry         leaves and mix well.

    Marinate this for 1/2 an hour in refrigerator.

    Heat 2 tablespoon  oil in a pan, put the fish pieces 2 at a time and keep in medium     

    Add  2 table spoon oil on sides and Cover cook for 3-5mins.

    Turn the fish to the other side, add oil on the sides and cover cook for 3mins.
     Roast till golden brown.

     Garnish it with fried onion, cilantro and chopped green chilies
